NYPIRG’s Fuel Buyers Group negotiates with home heating providers using the combined purchasing power of its members to get a lower price. With thousands of participants statewide, NYPIRG is able to negotiate to get members deeply discounted rates on home heating products and services. Membership and participation in the Fuel Buyers Group also contributes to NYPIRG’s advocacy work for stronger solar, wind, geothermal, and energy efficiency programs.
NYPIRG offers information on how to reduce your carbon footprint through do-it-yourself approaches, as well as locally-available programs and technologies. They’ll refer you to trusted local providers who can recommend and install energy efficiency products, and they’ll help you find information on programs and technologies that can help you make the switch to green heating sources.
Although homeowners are the most typical program participants, accounts of any size are free to join!

HEAT USA is the largest heating oil buying program in the US, serving over 50,000 members in 12 states, with over 120 participating heating oil suppliers. HEAT negotiates superior terms and conditions from local oil suppliers on behalf of its members by offering to bring thousands or even millions of gallons of new business to a supplier.
All HEAT USA members receive a free or discounted service contract on their heating system, which includes 24-hour emergency service during the heating season, extensive parts and labor coverage on their heating system, as well as an annual cleaning and tune-up of their heating system during the spring or summer. HEAT USA members also enjoy an advantageous pricing system in which dealers agree to a fixed profit margin above wholesale. Historically, members save between 15 and 20 cents per gallon compared to average rates.
